Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is VizAR?

VizAR (stands for Vizualisation Augmented Reality) is a SaaS platform we developed to enable infrastructure to be easily visualised using a mobile or headset device.  It is currently optimised for community consultations and stakeholder engagement purposes, with future roadmap use across the lifecycle of an infrastructure asset.

The SaaS platform is cloud based multi-tenanted, and accessible via secure login to a Client Management Console for account and project administration, reporting, and analytics.

The Client Management Console is on https://manage.vizspatial.com

This is paired with a front-end iOS application (as a viewer) that is integrated with the SaaS platform for users to access the data from the field, and visualise the infrastructure asset via augmented reality.

For use, VizAR Viewer app for iOS can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. (https://apps.apple.com/au/app/vizar-viewer/id6480162728)

What does VizAR do?

VizAR removes the complexity, high cost and specialised skills required to rapidly deploy 3D project and infrastructure visualisations, accurately and realistically.

Users of VizAR can manage their projects through a self-service web-portal, bringing their projects into a cohesive view with data analytics and 3D project visualisation.

A set of iOS apps (for iPhone, iPad and Apple VisionPro) enables the users to show how the infrastructure design will look ‘live’ in the real world via augmented reality.

What are the benefits of VizAR?

The use of VizAR enables our clients to transform their community and stakeholder engagement practices, by potentially replacing photomontage as the default visualisation methodology, and making location-based, data driven decision making and transparency in planning and consultation.

How do I get started?

Start with a trial account for 14 days, or if you have any questions, you can contact us about your requirements.

How much does it cost?

Contact us for a trial account, as the deployment methodology and costs rely on a few factors, such as whether you already have the 3D model of the infrastructure, how realistic the experience needs to be, and what data you may have on the location of the infrastructure.

What devices is VizAR available on?

Currently, VizAR Viewer can be used on higher spec iOS devices:

  • iPhone 12 and above
  • iPad Air (4th Generation and above)
  • iPad Pro (3rd Generation and above)
  • Apple VisionPro

What types of infrastructure does VizAR support?

VizAR supports a range of infrastructure assets, from buildings to wind turbines, solar panels and entire plant (or equipment).  Our platform has a range of 3D infrastructure assets available for use as part of our asset catalogue.

Can we build models ourselves; do we need them created and updated, etc.?

Yes, some of our clients have pre-existing 3D models that can simply be uploaded into the platform or we can create the models for you.  Essentially:

  1. VizAR can use existing 3D model assets that the client or partners may have.
  2. Alterations by the client to their own models can simply be uploaded to their account to replace or add to the client asset catalogue.
  3. Clients can purchase generic 3D model assets from marketplaces such as Turbosquid and simply upload to their account and asset catalogue. (Some minor model packaging is required post upload by VizAR).
  4. Clients can commission us to create a new 3D model for them.

What 3D file types are supported?

VizAR supports a range of 3D model types, with the most common being .FBX or .OBJ.  We can also work with Autocad, Autodesk, Blender, and other 3D software tools and their proprietary formats.

How long does a 3D model take to create?

It varies from hours to weeks. Note that a catalogue of standard assets is provided to each client so they can use default models immediately.

Highly detailed, large-scale models for machinery plants, transformer stations at life size scale, etc… may take 2-6 weeks.

Getting Started

What information do I need to provide to start a new Project?

There are several mandatory information we need:

Account based:

  • Name of account holder
  • Company
  • Role of account holder
  • Work email address
  • Company website
  • Company address
  • Company logo
  • Users (and details of users)
  • Permission/Role per user

Project based:

  • Project title
  • Project description
  • Infrastructure Model (3D model files)
  • Infrastructure Model title, type, description and thumbnail
  • Per model location:
    • Latitude co-ordinates
    • Longitude co-ordinates
    • Elevation / Altitude
    • Orientation

Please contact your VizSpatial Account Service team for the CSV/spreadsheet template you can use to provide this information, and the instructions in the sheet.

How do I set up a new account??

Your VizSpatial Account Service team will provision a new account for you.  Please visit our Trial Activation page, or Contact us for more information.

Once your account has been provisioned, you will be able to login to the Client Management Console and set up and change your account details, users, and project data.

Who do I contact if I have any problems?

Please contact your VizSpatial Account Service team, or via the Contact Us form.

How do I Login?

As part of on-boarding, the email address you used to set up the account will be the email address required to log in.

If you’ve forgotten your password, please go to the Client Management Console (https://manage.vizspatial.com) and click on the ‘Forgot your password” link to reset your password.

If you’ve forgotten the email address for the account, please contact the VizSpatial team to confirm subscription details.

Where do I download the VizAR Viewer app?

  • For iPad and iPhone, download the VizAR Viewer iOS app from the Apple App Store.
  • For Apple VisionPro, we will work with you and your VisionPro device to set up the application.

What other services could you offer to help me set up?

For a typical set up, we offer:

  • Additional Professional Services for: 3D model design and build, existing model alterations/modifications, project visualisations, fly though animations
  • Hardware Procurement: we can purchase devices, tripods and other equipment if required.

Technical and Other Support

Do you provide on-site (non-SaaS) support?

Yes, we offer support for clients in-person through group demonstrations, community engagements (support on-site to assist with community consultants and facilitation) and AV or device requirements.

We have supported community consultation projects with device rentals, AV set up and 3rd party facilitator training.

Where is the data held?

Our cloud infrastructure is localised to Oceania region.  If you have specific jurisdictional data requirements, and/or specific cloud infrastructure (such as AWS, Azure, Google, etc…), please contact your VizSpatial Account Service team.

How fast can you download higher resolution data?

Project data (project latitude, longitude, altitude, maps, images and text descriptions) are cloud hosted and delivered to the end devices such as an iPad. That data set is then cached on the device.

  • The largest asset is the 3D model. Model file sizes can vary from 10s of MB to 100’s of MB
  • Project data downloads are user activated on the device. It is recommended that Project data be downloaded prior to site use
  • Download speeds to the device are a function of cell tower or WiFi strength at the time of project file download or update

Example: a standard wind farm project file with 50-100 turbines may take up to 1 minute to download in the first instance on 5G for mobile or high speed WiFi internet.  Note that the same 3D model file is often used across a project, so the model is downloaded once, not 50 times.

Can VizAR be integrated with learning management systems?

Not currently.  However, our roadmap includes consumable end points or APIs so that components of the service can be integrated into 3rd party services.

Can you interface with the 3D object or infrastructure? E.g. open it up, etc?

Yes, 3D models can be created to be interactive. i.e., a model of a wind turbine or BESS unit can either be animated with a predefined sequence so internal components can be viewed and seen in detail, or buttons and gestures can be incorporated so each object can be inspected in detail by grabbing it and interacting with it.
